Green History
The CAC has sought to grow its own food to share as well as to build “green” since its inception in 1987. Due to the incredible creativity of our volunteers, staff and early visionaries, throughout 20 years we have been involved in many things. These include permaculture farming methods, strawbale construction, composting, raising chickens and serving low income populations in Mexico with gardens and the expertise to grow their own vegetables.
Another level of sustainability, that is often not acknowledged, is how we weave our spiritual practices into our daily work, play and home lives. Living our lives in this way creates long lasting peace of mind and joy. Inviting the Sacred into our lives throughout the day can sustain one’s body, soul and mind for a lifetime. Daily prayers, a hermitage for retreat, beautiful gardens and a labyrinth create space for staff, interns, and volunteers to “retreat” from the stress of work throughout the day or on weekends.
